Linux Media Player Help

I have converted a new hard drive to Kubuntu and am having some issues with streaming Windows Media

I installed the win32 codecs and can play streaming radio in FF with the mplayer plugin....

I installed mplayer both from synaptic and from cvs after uninstalling.

I had it all working but now cannot view video with sound. It plays video with sound muted fine, telling me there is a sound issue.

Creative SB Live 5.1 card and using alsa, ess and any other options from mplayer preferences did not work

Anyone have any suggestions?
