My Lite-On iHas120 sata dvd burner is acting up. I'm trying to burn a dvd but when I go to burn the dvd it is constantly burning coasters. I went into my computer and noticed when I put in a dvd into the dvd-rom it changed and classifies itself as a cd drive (with a dvd in the drive) with a disk in with 0 free space and 0 used space. I had burned dvds with it before, DL and single layer. Any advice or experience in this is appreciated.

Don't see an edit button. The same thing is happoning to my other dvd rw (ide this one). It is a Plextor DVD RW. When I put in a blank dvd it just reads it as a blank non writable disk. When I put in a blank cd, it works like normal. Both these drives worked not to long ago. I recently installed Windows XP 64 again.

Edit: I also drove 100 miles with my pc, it was secured on a seat though, without much bumps or rapid stoping. Don't see both of them fouling up the same way.

I've been doing a lot of searching and it could be that the dvd drivers for windows are acting up. People have the same problem with some burning software also, and Itunes. I have just re-installed windows though so I don't have much software on it, or time for much driver corruption. Evidently the drive being reclassified as a "cd drive" after I put in media is not a problem though. I'm running out of ideas.
