On my notebook using windows xp, everytime I try to create a new network connection to directly connect to my netgear router using the setup wizard, I finish the wizard and no new icons are created all the wizard says is "Your broadband connection should already be configured and ready to use." Then I tried ipconfig to use /release then /renew. All I get is just a message in command prompt that says "Windows IP Configuration" and thats it. Theres no stats at all.

is there anyway to completely delete all my network configurations?

    I hate dell laptops.

    That's because it is.

Right click on internet explorer >choose properties.
OR open it and choose tools>internet options

    Choose the connections tab
    choose never dial a connection
    click the LAN settings
    untick 'automatically detect settings'
    untick 'use automatic configuration script'
    untick 'use proxy server'

    Click OK
    Click OK

    close Internet Explorer
Open internet Explorer your internet should now be working.

    Open network connections
DO NOT try to create any icons, connections or Liverbirds
Right click the Local Area Connection (If you dont see it check the LAN CARD in Device Manager)
    Choose properties
On the general Tab select TCP/IP
    Click the properties button
tick 'obtain an IP address automatically'
tick 'obtain a DNS server address automatically

That should be enough, but to make sure click advanced

    On the IP settings tab
    check DHCP enabled is shown
    Default Gateway is blank

    On the DNS TAB
    DNS Servers is Blank

    On the Wins Tab
    Enable LMSHosts
    NETBIOS set to default

    On the options Tab
    Select TCP/IPfiltering
    Properties
    permit all in all cases

    Restart your pc

Open Internet Explorer and type into the address bar

    http://192.168.0.1 OR 192.168.1.1 (try both)

This will get you into the logon page for the netgear router setup.

    default user = admin
    default pass = password

    for Netgear
    Automatic metric is ticked
