Looking for a program that retains drive content list after unplugged

In other words a program that will still list the contents of an external drive, usb drive, heck even disk after it has been removed. Just like a folder index or something along those lines. I would think even a screen capture on root at drive removal would suffice. Anyone heard of anything like that? If I knew a damn thing about programming, I would design it LOL

Have you tried going to "computer" in the finder and right clicking on the device then selecting "always available offline"? I have to map some drives to get this dialogue.
But at that point copying is almost as useful.

interesting thought i had not tried. thank you, i will give that a shot. it never dawned on me.

 

Only would work for networked drives (that i can see) i tried removing the assigned drive letter and mapping to the external drive, but windows didn't like that idea....hmm....seems there would be a way to do this. windows 8.1 btw, if that matters.

None really are what I was thinking (nothing automated) more just manual ways of screen grabbing or saving the directory list as a file. Maybe what I am thinking of doesn't exist. Would seem useful to me, I could be alone on that...

 

I had another look at the features of Directory List & Print Free. Have a look at:
1. Update file list automatically or manually.
2. Support for connecting and disconnecting network drives.
I think anything more advanced will cost an arm and a leg...
