Are you having problems with this? Are you getting any messages about having to pay a couple hundred dollars to remove malware from your PC? Are you files being held for randsom?

Well, I had a user come to me this morning saying that he had a virus called trojan.attack. I looked around, found this definition, forwarded it his way, and he confirmed that the symptoms described there matched what he was experiencing. I haven't heard any word about the symptoms you've mentioned, but I can ask to confirm. Right now, I would have to say no.

I of course linked him to "read & run me first", but I don't think he wants to go through all that (I have to agree - a format is sometimes faster!). So I posted here.

Not in my experience! It depends on how much you need to backup, how much needs to be reinstalled, how much stuff needs to redownloaded and install all updates for everything that had to be reinstalled (including all Windows patches and updates), how much tweaking is required to configure the system as you previously had it .....etc. And most of the time when people think they have everything reinstalled and setup, they find out over the next few weeks that they missed a bunch of applications and updates.

True said! But believe me, I have stayed late nights doing both. They are both lengthy processes. Manually removing is much easier when you're certain of the infection, hence this thread. Have you any advice, sir?

Run the READ & RUN ME and attach the three requested logs. Then we can see what needs to be done.
