lost appdata on vista

    I used to have a file on my Vista that was labeled appdata with appdata\local\temp etc. I have seemed to have lost that directory. I was using pareto privacy controls program. Would this have deleted that directory? If i look in search and type in app data\local\temp etc. it seems to come up. When I try to download certain files I get an error message:c:users/***/appdata\local\temp could not be opened because of unknown error. try saving to a disk first then open the file. I think the loss of the file appdata has something to do with this. Please help me return the files. Thank you! You guys are the best!

    Often people confuse any type of copy or moving files including installing from a CD drive as "downloading". I think this is what he meant. I assume jeffcp, you meant the Application Data folder? It can usually be found by going to My Computer, click and expand the C" drive, then under "documents and settings" you should see your computer user name and below that should be the application data folder. The local\temp folder is typically created by a program you recently installed and is most likely deleted after that program is installed.

    Appdata folder is normally hidden.

    Buggabear, I was trying to open attachments that was sent to my Gmail account. I tried 3 or 4 different ones with no success. I never have had a problem in the past opening them. If i tried a recovery to a time before this happened do you think that would help?
