Lost sound on my HP Notebook as a result of installing Vista SP2.

Please help. Suddenly Windows Media Player, version 11.0.6001.7007 does not play CD's or stored music files on my computer, HP Pavillion dv4z with Vista Home Premium 32 bit. When I click on Web Help I get directed to the following URL ---

I have no sound at start-up either or when I attempt to play videos over the web. I have checked the status of sound devices and drivers in Device Manager, but there were no error indicators and the drivers were up to date. I did not have this problem until I installed Vista SP2 earlier today.

 

I remember reading another poster’s suggestion that if you lose sound after installing SP2 of Vista (or any other new app or update), try recovering your old driver and reinstalling it.

Here are a few other suggestions:

Go to Control Panel, Sound, “Speaker + Dual Headphones”
Screen should have a green check mark and say: Working
Select: Playback, Recording or Sounds
Double-click for settings, and select all your settings

Then, go to Control Panel + open IDT Audio, Playback
Click on: Settings, and choose all your settings
Then click on: Setup and choose all your settings
Then click on: Equalization, and choose all your settings.

If none of these suggestions help, it may be time to call tech support at Microsoft and HP.
