Since we want it disabled anyway, just continue the steps and we will look into that problem later when all other problems are resolved. What are your problems anyway?

thank-you for fast reply!! it started with norton 2003 to 2005 upgrade failure and i've been running with no protection since then. i was just concerned with 3 weeks naked on the net and wanted to be sure i was safe. my computer has been glitchy since the failed upgrade. i was able to complete all the scans/removals etc and install zone alarm and avast today, while i wait for symantec to send the disc that's on backorder. i still can't enable my system restore and i have to fix my canon camera software as when i go to open it it says i must install it and when i go to add/remove programs it is listed but won't uninstall. i figure i'll be spending some time at the canon site figuring out how to repair whatever is corrupted. any ideas on either of these will be really appreciated. and a link for cleaning up your hard drive for dummies would make me forever greatful. (i haven't come up with that yet on my searches on this site).

i was running http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php? to be sure i was malware free. i guess i was just paranoid after being online without protection, since the failed norton upgrade on 1/2/05. i wasn't sure whether the glitchiness was due to norton messing up files or a virus or trojan. i posted in this thread about the system restore because that was step #1 in getting rid of spyware protocol, i was able to get through all the steps but cannot enable system restore. i can check under software for that. thanks again for the speedy replies and all the help you offer to everyone.

I would guess that the Service has been stopped and disabled and needs to be turned back on.
