Mac Word 2004 Won't Open A New Document

    okay so i installed mac word 2004 with the whole microsoft office package on my mac

    the only problem, is that i cannot open a new word document. word opens okay. but when i click new document, it's opening my mail account plus the microsoft error reporting (Chart icon); i then have to control-force quit both mail and word... i just checked... it's the same for excel and powerpoint

    do you think i need to re-install?

    What is the file extension?

    Did you install all the office updates?

    maybe the updates are a good idea - can you post me a link?

    i dont know the file extension from the new document file

    Ctrl-Click and go to get info to find out.

    As for updating, go to Finder-Applications and look for the Microsoft Autoupdater. Office 2004 Sp2 came out two days ago.
