Macrovision auto updates-spyware??

    I have this program by Macrovision that looks for software updates.Its annoying as it tries dialing out all the time.I noticed it soon after I loaded Office2007.
    Ive tried deleting it but cannot find it anywhere.. The shortcut is in the control panel..
    Is this Bill`s joke on me or is it something to worry about?
    Im running full pay AVG av and as.AVG does not redflag it at all..

    Can I remove this at all and if so,how?Thanks all..N

    Macrovision software is normally installed with games and is used as a copy protection feature. Do you have games installed on this PC? If so, this may be related to your games. What is the name of the process that is running? Is that actual process name Software Manager or is it something else?

    C,Greetings.No,no games installed at all.This is on my laptop.
    In the controll panel its called "Software updates"
    When opened its called "Software Manager"

    This is Macrovision's version of InstallShield which is a program used to automatically check for updates. I'm not sure whether it is installed as part of Office 2007 or not. You should really check about that in the Software Forum. This is not considered malware. I'm also not sure of the impact of uninstalling but it probably is not required since it is just an automatic update checker just like InstallShield which PC manufactures like to stick on PCs. I uninstall this junk from all of my PCs since I want to be the one to decide what I update and when. Either way as stated above this is not an issue for this forum, consider uninstalling and/or posting in the Software Forum.
