    Hi

First of all i would like to thanks anyone can involve and tell me
some good intructions how to avoid this disaster, read my story .

I bought a new never open Western Digital hard disc 250Gb
I format him in NTFS 1 partition. It seems to work perfect.
Then i decide to move some music files from my older hard disc(120GB size) about 100Gb music files.
So i transfer the complete music files to my new 250Gb hard disc. After i make i good compare of the files folders etc i see that was excactly the same just in case i made something wrong.Everything works fine.I even check the music files in the new hard drive and they work just fine.So i decided to delete the files from the older hard drive (120 Gb) to make some space

I close the pc and i went to sleep the morning i wake up i open again the pc
and when i try to reach my new hard drive(250Gb) i get a msg.

"disc not fomated do you want to formatted now"

I was tottaly freak out cause i have there about 100Gb of important music for me and i dont have even made a back up.

This msg is there everytime i try to reach and explore the hard drive.I can do anything about it.What you advice me to do.Plz HELP!!!!

its very important files for me :(

    Kind regards

You could install your old drive alone and install the OS to it. Then install the new drive as the d drive and see if it can be accessed that way.

If you have access to another computer, you could also try downloading Knoppix from www.knoppix.net. This is an ISO file used to make a bootable CD. Burn the CD and boot it. If the drive is working at all, Knoppix should be able to see it and read it. You can then use the Knoppix Samba Network Neighborhood to copy the data to a different computer.

If the disk is healthy and has no damage you should try to get a software like Partition Magic to check the drive and maybe set it active.

the problem is that anytime i conect the hard drive windows wants to format the hard drive , but i have allready format this disc and it works good.

Why they want to format the drive again? the drive is brand new and i have allready format him into ntfs and for 1 day seems and worked fine

What does it say in Disk Management about the drive? Start, run, and type diskmgmt.msc.

    Filesystem, etc.

    what is your opinion?

Well, I was hoping you were going to tell me what filesystem showed up in Disk management ;) Check post #11.

Its possible its just a corrupt partition table. Depending on your answer is how/if we can proceed.

The 233gb drive is the one that isn't reading, right?

    Sounds like partition table corruption.

    Partition 1
Type : 07 <----Its supposed to be NTFS.
    Hidden: No
    Active: Yes

Now, keep in mind there is always a chance of data loss with this procedure:

At a cmd.exe prompt, performa chkdsk /f on that drive. It may ask to do it on next reboot. Say yes, then reboot.

chkdsk x: /f where x is the drive letter.

Kinda afraid of this data loss you mention r you sure about it?

Anything you do to the drive could result in data loss.

Am I sure? I'm sure its a disk repair tool provided by MS. It doesn't appear you have a drive overlay or anything like that. But what it repairs, it could delete something.

There is always a risk, sadly.

If you want to try data recovery tools instead, look here:

    Hi feelindeep, I symphasise with your current dillemma. It just so happens that Fred Langa (very solid PC advice) had a dillemma with HDD in his most recent newsletter. Long story short read the article;

    Fred's Major Brain-Fade @

    http://www.langa.com/newsletters/2006/2006-02-13.htm

Although not directly related to your prob, the tools and advice maybe invaluable.

Where he quotes "Having a deep-geek file/disk recovery tool on hand just might save you hours of work later on, so click on over and see what's available!", and points to the link:

    http://www.informationweek.com/windows/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=179102805

Hopefully this will for worst case scenario at least allow you to recover your valuable data!

Hope this helps and let us know how you get on.

Thank you so much for all the info
I try both and then i let you know the results.

i think its safer too take all the date back with undelete program
and then try the adrenalyne way if it works.

    thanks again
