Huge problem....can not use Internet Explorer, MSN Messenger, and many other applications including Ad-Aware, Spybot, ICQ, Yahoo etc.

Comes up with can not run application because WININET.dll was not found.

Last night AVG found virus win32/Nsag in windows\system32\wininet.dll, which i moved to virus vault. I think this may have caused the problem.

Please help. Am using Mozilla Firefox for internet access now.

    Thanks

Put it in the c:\windows\system32 folder where it belongs.

The problem that caused the original infection may still be on your PC. We have seen many problems lately related to Smitfraud infecting wininet.dll. You may want to run our full cleaning procedure in:

Thanks once again. Things seem to be working now, but according to AVG, still infected with win32/Nsag. Found in windows\lastgood\system32\winlnet.dl and system volume information\_restore{7E1ACA4F-36CC-4117-A5BB-46D760573558}\RP28\A0002014.DLL

These can not be healed by AVG.

Slight new problem now....with Iexplorer, it opens a secondary window when i click on something, but will not download anything into this window, how do i fix this ?

    Thanks once again in advance.

See what I recommended in message # 4. You are still infected.

    Also do the below:

Download smitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop.

Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

    Reboot into safe mode.

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen. Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please attach this log to your next reply.
