Our ISP has detected spam coming form our network of 3 pc's. We have wireless with 2 pc's on the wirleless and 1 direct cable from router.

NOw we have run AV,avg, spybot, adaaware and the next step is to run runkey, shownew and hijack this.

You must only post logs for one PC in a thread and you must attach ALL 6 logs requested in the READ ME. You need to pick which PC you wish to work in this current thread and then attach the CounterSpy (or AVG Antispyware), BitDefender, and PandaActive scan logs.

You also need to use the current versions of all software. Thus download and use the current versions of GetRunKey and ShowNew and attach new logs from them too for which ever PC you wish to work on in this current thread.

Ok this is my problem. I want to work with my first post of logs where it says

'my pc connected by wireless shownew, runkey and hijack this. I ran other AV software before this.'

I have the latest programs of all those programs.
I have run avast, avg, adaware, smitfraudfix and has come up clean which i can get logs. I can't get these other program logs posted as i am now just a work.

NOw my ISP has threatened to cut me off so my PC has now been disconnected from the internet. They claims that I am sending spam and have ordered me 'yes you heard right' to disable the router wireless network as they only will work with PC and no network. So I can't run pandascan or bitdefender.

I am running out of time to find a problem that, my PC is claimed to be sending SPAM.

The first PC need the current versions of GetRunKey and ShowNew and then you must attach new logs. You also need to attach the log from AVG Antispyware which is already installed on that PC.

What you have attached for it thus far does not show any problems other than old versions of the above 2 programs and the fact that you are using a 4 year out of date version of Spybot.

    Hi,

I downloaded the runkey and show new from the
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=83087

    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=95941
The logs i gave were programs from these websites I got last night.
So I don't know why these would be old?
My spybot has latest updates but i can download the latest version . I thought it doesn't matter though?
My AVG log will be attached when i get home.

If you tell me where the latest versions are i will get the logs for you no probs.I think my ISP provider will cut me off by the sounds of it and yes they are insistant I or the other PC is sending spam with a virus. I need to check mine first of course as we are doing.

You did not use the versions you downloaded last night on the first PC. You did use them on the second PC though.

Forget updates! You don't have the current version of the program. You are running version 1.2 that has not been used in 4 years.

The current versions of all programs are always obtained from the links in the READ ME.

I don't think we are going to find anything on this first PC but just to be safe, let's also check for rootkits.

    Now please download F-Secure's BlacklightBeta
    • Download fsbl.exe and save it to the Desktop.
    • Once saved... double click fsbl.exe to install the program.
    • Click accept agreement and Click scan
    • This application may trigger a warning from your antivirus. Let the driver load. Wait for it to finish.
    • If it displays any items...don't do anything with them yet. Just hit exit (close)
    • It will drop a log on Desktop that starts with fsbl....big number
    Please attach the BlackLight log.

Ok will do everything you say when i get home later.
So can you tell me anything about 1st pc where we have ran all av programs before aswell.

My ISP are a bunch fascists and they are Optus who are a large company.
How can someone possibly send email from my PC with out me detecting it? This is from a webmail not outlook express.

I thought we were working on your 1st PC.

Shutdown all PC except one and then see if they still say you are spamming. Perhaps by process of elimination you can find one. I don't think we are going to see anything. What do you mean it is from webmail? What webmail? Your ISP's? Are they sure it is mail and is it incoming or outgoing?

I will post logs of the pc i want to check first which is my wireless connection.
The pc we have been working with . Then when that is clear i will check the pc connected directly to internet. My wireless will be disconnected apart from donloading av sofware.

    Hi,

I have shutdown my pc from network. The ISP (internet service provider)rang and said it is a problem they will downgrade so i wont be cut off.
Webmail is sending emails from a web browser instead of a client eg OE

The spam mails are outgoing from us apparantly.

    Hi,

Blightlightbeta came up with no problems. My spybot was new version and found a few small things. My avg ran for hours and the log file didn't save so I need to do again if need be.

Here are latest 3 file logs.

You mean you just installed the new version. It was not the new version before.

You did not attach a complete HijackThis log. All you attached was a process list.

What is the below very larger file for?
    Code:
    "C:\"
    yy.zip 11 Jun 2007 227604384 "yy.zip"

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    • Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:
    • Now click the 'Done' button.
    • Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    • You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt
Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. This program does not require an installation. The executable actually runs the program.

NOTE: This program is for Windows XP and Windows 2000 only. ATF Cleaner will remove all files from the items that are checked so if you have some cookies you'd like to save. Please move them to a different directory first.
    • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    • Under Main choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
    If you use Firefox browser
    • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
    If you use Opera browser
    • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main ATF Cleaner menu to close the program.

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. Avenger
    2. GetRunKey
    3. ShowNew
    4. HJT

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 8 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

I need the log from Avenger.

Also if only this PC is connected and the others are shutdown, do you still have spam issues?

  20. jagguy

    jagguy Private First Class

There was no log from avenger if i remember.

I can do another if you want. No I am not having spam issues still.

I will need to do another pc after this just to make sure.

Yes there is. C:\avenger.txt exactly where specified. Just attach it.

    Well that's good.

Start a new thread and just make a reference that it is a new PC and also provide a link to this first thread just in case it could be of use.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix, you can delete the ComboFix.exe file, C:\ComboFix folder, C:\QooBox folder, C:\WINDOWS\nircmd.exe, and the C:\combofix.txt log that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    7. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    8. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    9. You can delete the ShowNew.Zip and GetRunkey.Zip files and the files that you extracted from the ZIP files. You can also delete the C:\newfiles.txt and C:\runkeys.txt logs that were created
    10. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    11. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
