I have been having minor popup problems recently and I have been meanig to do a scan for a while but didn't have the time. I did do a scan with malware bytes and super antispyware, they both detected and I put into quarantine, but then deleted them after one of the steps in the read me first told me to. Just last week my pc has been taking much longer to start up. So I went to the read me first on mg and followed ALL steps thouroughly up until the part where you have to go to msconfig ans select normal startup, now when I boot my brings me to the login page, then shortly after enterog windows, say 15 secs everthing stops, no hdd activity and nothing responds

I have windows vista home premium installed with avira malware bytes and super antispyware, oh and ccleaner.

Please help as this is my only pc ( I'm typing on iPod touh ATM and it's rather annoying!)

    thankyou!

I have merged all your threads together considering I believe this all relates to one PC. Please refrain from creating multiple threads in this way in future.

Currently reviewing your logs and will get back to you with a set of instructions as soon as possible.

We are seeing signs of an MBR infection

What is the W Dive? An old version of Windows? Do you need it? If not, either remove it or backup any required files and repartition it. If the W drive is Windows XP and it if it is still bootable, you could change it to be the boot drive and use the Recovery Console and fixmbr.

i used the W drive for a BETA of Windows 7, it is empty now.

Then I suggest you either remove it or repartition it just to be safe.

Then run Rootrepeal again. Attach the log into your next reply after removing or repartitioning.:)

    1. Please tidy this desktop up. The desktop is an excellent place for malware to hide and also an easy way to lose important files/folders.

    2. Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    After clicking Fix exit HJT

    3. Please use Windows Explorer to locate the following bold file:

    c:\users\Nick Burrell\AppData\Roaming\blank.exe

    Re-name it to blank.exe.old

    4. Please go to add/remove programs and uninstall the following software:
    • Java(TM) 6 Update 15

    5. Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:

    KILLALL::

    Folder::
    c:\programdata\SP

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    6. Also delete all files in the below bold folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    1. C:\Windows\Temp
    2. C:\Users\Nick Burrell\AppData\Local\temp

    7. Now reboot your machine and install the most current and up to date version of Java available here at the below link:

    Java Runtime 6

    8. Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Combofix.

    9. Let us know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!
