Major virus malware issues

    Picked up a host of nasty malware/viruses yesterday. got past the PCTools Firewall and avast and wormed itself in.

    I ran Avast and SAS and still have the issues. cannot boot to safe mode either. My DVD drive is unresponsive, so I cannot boot to the recovery disk. As I type this, I have the comp running the Avast bootscan to try and eliminate the issues. the PC is currently disconnected from the LAN so no net connectivity right now.

    Whats my best next-step?

    OK - after several reboots, scans, and cleanings with various cleaners, I have the system up again. but the virus/worm did a ton of damage to my registry, including backed up reg files. The PC cannot 'see' the WAN card, CD Drives, Video GPU or sound card. Essentially I have a motherboard and HD at this time.

    Looking for any advice on getting this registry repaired. I cant reloan windows since none of the drives work. I even brought in an external DVDR and plugged it into the USB port, nothing.

    All help is appreciated

    Did you try using System Restore to return to an older restore point before the problem began. If not, that should be your next step.

    If you cannot get System Restore to run properly, then try doing it via the below method ( you will need your Windows boot CD ):

    If you don't have your Windows CD you could try the below. This applies to Windows XP. You did not even tell us what version of Windows you are using:

    Try making and using this CD: Recovery console for those without an XP disk
