If you can help, I will be MOST grateful. I have a Sony Vaio laptop running Windows 98 SE that I want to connect to a wireless network. The laptop has a PCMCIA port and I have a Linksys Wireless-B Network Adapter that works. I even installed the driver and got the card to show up on the list of Network devices in the Control Panel. The adapter came with software called Biongo that finds local wireless signals and my router IS on the list. However, the computer can not connect to the router. I have the card set to the right channel and it is an open network. Any ideas?

    Things I noticed.
    1. On startup, I get an error saying "10038: Socket Operation on non-socket."

    2. If I eject the card and quickly put it back in when the computer is ON, the card can connect but the computer still can't display webpages.

    3. Under "Network" in the Control Panel, there is nothing else other than the card on the list (there are no protocols and clients). Are they necessary?

Hi whirledsol and welcome to MGs.

Try running this tool - WinSockFix

If that does not do the trick, try resetting the TCP/IP stack as described in this MS KB article.
