Windows Genuine Authentication (?) recently installed itself on my PC. I was able to turn most of it off, but now have a little blue star in my taskbar. How can I get rid of this entire piece of crap? Will provide system info if needed to answer this question.

It is not Malware it is part of Microsofts anti-piracy fight ( right or wrong this method is ), it highlights that you have an illegal version of XP installed, if you didnt know you had an illegal version installed then you need to contact the vendor who sold you the PC.

or if your version is legitimate then you need to contact Microsoft.

I bought the machine from a private party, and didn't even think to checkthe authenticity of the operating system.
