Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron 1501. It's an older computer (about 8 or 9 years old). I'm giving this laptop to my niece to help her with school projects! It's running a little slow so I'm hoping Major Geeks can help me get this running good for her!:)
It had something called Share-Bear that seemed to be causing issues. I removed with Revo Uninstaller. I did the run and read me steps and found a few issues. Can you review my logs that I attached?
    Thanks!!

P.S. this laptop has been used in almost 2yrs!

There is only a little bit more to do.

Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Run OTM.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of
      the code box
    Code:
    :Processes
    explorer.exe
    :Files
    C:\Documents and Settings\Nick\AppData\LocalLow\DataMngr
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp\*.*
    C:\Documents and Settings\Nick\Local Settings\TEMP\*.*

    :Reg

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar]

    "{c2d64ff7-0ab8-4263-89c9-ea3b0f8f050c}"=-
    "!{95B7759C-8C7F-4BF1-B163-73684A933233}"=-
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes]
    "DefaultScope"="{0633EE93-D776-472f-A0FF-E1416B8B2E3A}"
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes\{9BB47C17-9C68-4BB3-B188-DD9AF0FD22}]
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes\{05EBDAC6-BCBF-4312-A4A7-1DD70AB0BE36}]

    "Tabs"="res://ieframe.dll/tabswelcome.htm"
    :Commands
    [purity]
    [EmptyTemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar
      ) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large [IMG] button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • the JRT.TXTlog
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

I completed all the steps in your instructions! After I ran OTM.exe my computer keeps freezing. I had to keep rebooting so I could run the Junkware Removal Tool! Even now my computer is running slower. The internet connection is to exellent......per the system tray. Typing this response is slow, I type 3 words than I have to wait for it to catch up to me!
Hopefully something will show in the logs so we can fix it!!

I do not see any reason why running those steps with OTM would cause a problem. It was just some typical junkware we were cleaning up.

Try uninstall AVG9, which is way out of date anyway, and then reboot the PC. After reboot, also run the below.

    AVG Remover 2014.4116

How is the PC running now?

I uninstalled AVG9! I tried to run the AVG Remover 2014.4116 link, but got this error.

The MySQL database of this Contentteller Content Management System installation has encountered the following problem:
The MySQL database server has returned 1064: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ') AND (filecat_website = '0' OR filecat_website = '1') ORDER BY filecat_name' at line 1 while executing SELECT filecat_id, filecat_name, filecat_seo, filecat_description, filecat_keywords FROM esselbach_ct_filescats WHERE filecat_id IN (,) AND (filecat_website = '0' OR filecat_website = '1') ORDER BY filecat_name

Please try it in a few minutes again. We apologize for any inconvenience.

My computer seems to run a little better!:)
Don't know if this a malware, hardware or software issue, but my USB ports do not work(4 total). Or maybe i just need to replace them, or would it need some type of update? Should I load new AntiVirus or wait until you are finished?
    Thanks!

Try the link now as I just fixed it.

Hardware issue for the Hardware Forum. Perhaps it is a driver issue or they are disabled in BIOS.

Let's wait to make sure AVG is completely gone first. Run the removal tool link and then do the below so we can check.

Run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below log:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip

I ran the AVG remover! The new log is attached!

    Looks good.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:
      • Refer to the instructions for your WIndows version in this link: Disable And Enable System Restore
      • What we want you to do is to first disable System Restore to flush restore points some of which could be infected.
      • Then we want you to Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
