Malware possibly preventing proper internet connection

About a week ago, I became unable to use the internet at my current home. ISP is Time Warner.

The strange thing is, according to Windows, I am connected to the Internet with no problems. I am sometimes able to load half a page and on occasion, will load a page completely after a long wait. Typically though, I will be unable to connect.

Another interesting aspect to this problem is that it is only affecting me at my home. At friends houses and my University, I am able to use their internet with no issue.

I concluded it was likely on my end due to Avast flagging suspicious .tmp files around the time the problem first arose.

I have attached the files requested.

    Thank you for the help.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Then the problems may not all be on your PC. If it was then it would happen everywhere you use it.

However there are something items we need to clean up.

First do you know if the below are legit on your PC? Hitman had an issue with them.

    C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Rayman 2\Rayman2.exe
    C:\Users\Jack\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\WmiPrv\WmiPrvSE.exe

Uninstall the below programs. If you do not find them or they will not uninstall, just keep going.
    Java 7 Update 17

Now install the current version of Sun Java from:

Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Run OTM.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of
      the code box
    Code:

    explorer.exe

    :Commands
    [purity]
    [EmptyTemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar
      ) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large [IMG] button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • the JRT.TXTlog
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    I believe:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Rayman 2\Rayman2.exe
    C:\Users\Jack\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\WmiPrv\WmiPrvSE.exe

are legit, however I don't use them anymore and would not be opposed to deleting them just to be safe.

I performed the steps and attached the files you requested. My computer seems to be running fine, but I am about to go back to my place. I will find out if this mysterious internet issue has been resolved then.

If not, can I assume it is an issue I should contact my ISP about?

Your help is wholly appreciated. Thanks again!

    You're welcome.

Okay then if you do not use them then you should uninstall the below:
    Minecraft 1.4.5
    Rayman 2
Rayman 2: The Great Escape GOG Edition

First I would power cycle your router or bypass it all together if that is possible ( like if it is your own router and not one that your ISP provides ) to see if that helps. Then I would call them. If your PC works when not on your network then it is more likely something in your network and not the PC. Do you have other PCs on this home network? If so, do they work?

I uninstalled those programs you advised.

I've tried power cycling the router and even connecting directly to it via an ethernet cable to no avail. The router was issued by my ISP.

There are 2 other PCs connected to this network and they are functioning fine, so it is only me. I will be contacting my ISP on Monday.

Other than that, is there anything else you believe I should delete based on my logs? Or anything else you think I could try?

If not, thank you so much for the help. I appreciate you taking the time.

Okay than this points back towards your PC which is strange since it works at your friends house. When at home and at your friends, do you connect the same way ( wireless vs hard wired ) ? Perhaps you have some settings that you put into your PC that recognize your home network name and that have blocked connections on your home network. Possible in your firewall or in some protection software.

Boot up your PC on your home network and then do the below so that I can check whether anything appears different on your home network:

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip

I connect the same way (wirelessly) on all the networks I use.

You're right, it probably is something really simple that's blocking my home network. The trouble is with locating the problem.

Attached is the log you requested while on my home network.

Yes it does not appear to be a malware issue. And your PC works when on another network so there is nothing wrong with your PCs drivers and services. I suggest resetting the Windows firewall to default values. See the below:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/restore-windows-firewall-settings

Then reboot your PC and see if there is any change
