Yesterday out of nowhere my computer started to just freeze up and give the error message that such and such program is not responding, including any online activity. The first thing I tried to do was to run a scan of my computer with my virus protection software (McAfee), but the program would not run the scan at all, so I ran the Mcafee virtual technician program they offer. Upon running it, it found a few issues that it fixed, but could not fix one issues that it defined as (1 dat / engine update). I have no idea if this is related to the issues I am having. I have followed your instructions as best as possible and think that I have completed all steps as requested. I have had to do all this in safe mode with networking because the programs will not run if windows is started normally. I am still having the same issues, so here are the logs you requested. Thanks in advance.

[IMG] Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.

    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

Otherwise I am not finding any malware in your logs.

You need to move ComboFix from Downloads, where you ran it, directly to your desktop.

What issues are you still having? I may need to send you to the software forum for additional assistance.

    Thanks for the quick response!

I moved ComboFix.exe to the Desktop like you instructed.

I also downloaded Junkware Removal Tool to the Desktop as you instructed and have attached the log.

Do you think my problems could be coming from Mcafee being corrupted or something like that? Should I uninstall it and re-download it or another anti-virus program to my computer? I can open Mcafee like before but still can't run a scan of my computer. It just freezes up. That combined with the 1 dat / engine update issue that the Mcafee virtual technician program highlighted and couldn't fix has me suspicious.

Thanks again! Please refer me to the software team if need be.

Yes, try uninstalling McAfee and then run CCleaner. Then download and reinstall and see if that solves the problem.

Re-installing McAfee was the answer. All problems/issues seem to be resolved now. Thank you so much for your assistance in this matter!

    Good to know.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix
(This uninstall will only work as written if you
installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK.
        Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and
      deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any
others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the
      C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg
file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file
to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush
        your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
