Have followed your malware removal guide and am attaching the log files created. System appears to still have issues.

It would be more helpful if you explain exactly what "issues" you are having. ;)

Yes, sorry about that! Everything seems to be working, however, am still getting some infections from the AVG resident.:-o

Like what? Do you have a log?

The only possible issues I see are:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\chg.exe

And also the fact that ComboFix thinks some of your system files have been infected which may or may not be correct.

I'll drive back into town and copy the virus scan to a text file and send it through. It will take me about 40 mins. Will you still be available to have a look?

Just attach the log when you have it and I will check it as soon as I'm around.

Also, please download SystemLook from one of the links below and save it to your Desktop.
    Download Mirror #1

    Download Mirror #2
    • Double-click SystemLook.exe to run it.
    • Copy the content of the following codebox into the main text field:
    Code:
    :filefind
    regedit.exe
    expand.exe
    netsetup.exe
    netsh.exe
    netstat.exe
    ntsd.exe

    spnpinst.exe
    • Click the Look button to start the scan.
    • When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.
Note: The log can also be found on your Desktop entitled SystemLook.txt

Let's also take some action on a couple of suspect files. Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:
    • Now click the Execute button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\avenger.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

I think AVG may be missing a load of problems. According to your SystemLook log, all of those files which ComboFix also pointed out, do not have valid MD5 codes. In addition the one AVG point out (which is in our list) and a few others also have totally non-valid file sizes. There is a very good chance that this system has a form of PE file infection (like a Virut or similar infection). I not really inclined to trust this PC right now and you may really be much better off doing a reinstall to be secure since it is very hard to know the complete list of files that have been modified.

We could attempt to fix some of these that we know but there could be many many more. Another possible solution which could be worth a try in this case would be to perform your Windows Updates. You have not updated to Windows XP SP3 and doing so may or may not be able to correct some of this. Do you want to try this? If so, go to Windows Update and download and install SP3. Afterwards, you will have to go to Windows Update a few more times to perform additional updates that will only appear after you have updated to SP3.
