    Hey Guys,

Excellent info on Malware removal, really appreciate it.

A question though; is there any upside or downside if installed affected hdd on another PC and scanned for Malware?

Naturally I would follow your guidelines to the letter :cool

    Thanks in Advance

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

The procedure works properly when you boot from the drive having problems. Running the problem drive as a slave in another PC will result in the other PC being cleaned not the problem PC.

Running an antivirus scan or a scanner like Malwarebytes does give you options to scan other drives but the problem still remains that most of what is written in the cleaning process expects you to boot from the problem drive.

Ah, makes sense Chas, appreciate the response.

Do the same issues arise if I can only boot into safe mode? As in do the various software's require Windows prime?

Secondly, in which scenario would I default to using a Rescue Disk? I understand they become useful if you can not boot into windows prime or safe mode but are there any other scenarios that apply?

Lastly, there are several Rescue Disk products on the market, but is there a stand out performer?

Again, I appreciate any information you can throw my way m8. I like to be independant when it comes to building and maintain my own PC's, and malware/virus's etc is a subject that I have been reluctant to delve into. I currently run Avira AV free, Comodo FW free and Malwarebytes AM and AE. So far so good.

What I am currently doing is putting together an action plan for myself in the event that something does manage to sneak past the various defenses. I tend not to visit sites that may pose a problem(porn etc.) but I do download files from various places and I'm thinking it's only a matter of time before I become infected. I just want to be ready that's all.

    Thanks in Advance

Not completely! If a PC cannot boot in normal mode but can boot in safe mode then it is okay to get started in safe mode. But sooner or later you must boot normally to really make sure things are properly cleaned. Many files will not load in safe mode.

Windows Prime is a rogue anti-malware program!!! I assume that you are using an incorrect term and meant to say normal boot mode?

Rescue Disks should be a last resort after all other options have been exhausted. Rescue disks can render a PC unbootable that may have been bootable before. Even Microsoft's Windows Defender Offline scanner ( a bootable disk ) breaks many of PCs per week. We have to repair them all the time here.

When Windows is not running ( like when a rescue disk is used ) the operating system files are unprotected and could be mistakely deleted. Delete the wrong one ( even if it really is infected ) and now the PC is unbootable.

There is no simple set of steps that can be used 100% of the time. There are hundreds of thousands of infections which is growing and changing all the time. So based on the actual infection and the symptoms/problems a PC is having, it is up to the malware removal expert to choose appropriate actions to take. The READ & RUN ME is a generic starting point to gather lots of information to decide what malware type problems may exist. Typically there is much more than what a user complains about. But a user may not always be able to get started with the READ & RUN ME until some other steps have been taken. Especially if a PC is unbootable or if the PC is unbootable but everything that you attempt to run gets blocked for some reason.

    Thanks m8

I really appreciate you taking the time to shed some light on this subject. I completely understand what your saying, the enviroment is forever changing so no one process can be used, all depends on the scenario.

If we don't speak again I guess it's a good thing lol.

    Take Care
