    Hello,

I had problems with a slow PC several weeks ago and went through the Malware removal guide here at majorgeeks. I installed everything and went through everything step by step. Everything seemed to be working afterwards and I didn't post a thread or upload any of my 5 logs.

Everything slowly started to go bad again. I had a problem with something called dealcabby and I mistakenly went to a site called cleanpcguide.com and downloaded their fake solution software and made everything worse. It is at: http://www.cleanpcguide.com/download/ and you can see the 3 things it wants you to download. I see the installers in my download folder, they are: FixNCR.reg, SpeedyPC Pro Installer.exe, SpyHunter-Installer.exe.

Now I can't open my folders, can't install or uninstall programs, can't change anything - can't rename folders, or access my external hard-drive - everything freezes. I can't do anything involving system tools, couldn't even do a system restore.

One of the programs I tried to uninstall was "SpeedyPC Software" which is no longer in the uninstall list, but the folder is still there in Program files folder along with .exe file I can't delete.

I still had all the programs I downloaded last time but none of them run. I tried to go through all the steps again but, Can't uninstall anti-virus or firewall programs. When I run RogueKiller, TDSKiller, HitmanPro, they run for awhile then freeze. Malware Bytes won't even open. MG Tools runs awhile then stops.

I have all 5 log files from the first time I ran through these steps, but cannot create new ones as the programs won't run. I'll attach the old logs from 9/14.

I was able to do the initial steps like: Disable emulation software. But then CCleaner would freeze at Emptying the Recycle Bit (at 23%). UAC has been disabled but none of the 5 downloaded programs ran to completion or made a log.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please do the below so that we can boot to System Recovery Options to run a scan.

For 32-bit (x86) systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to a flash drive.
For 64-bit (x64) systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64 and save it to a flash drive.

Plug the flashdrive into the infected PC.

Enter System Recovery Options from the Advanced Boot Options:
    • Restart the computer.
    • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until Advanced Boot Options appears.
    • Use the arrow keys to select the Repair your computer menu item.
    • Select US as the keyboard language settings, and then click Next.
    • Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
    • Select your user account an click Next.

On the System Recovery Options menu you will get the following options:
    • Select Command Prompt
    • In the command window type in notepad and press Enter.
    • The notepad opens. Under File menu select Open.
    • Select "Computer" and find your flash drive letter and close the notepad.
    • In the command window type e:\frst.exe (for x64 bit version type e:\frst64) and press Enter
Note: Replace letter e with the drive letter of your flash drive.
    • The tool will start to run.
    • When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
    • Press Scan button.
    • It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please attach this file to your next reply. (See: How to attach)

There are not real malware problems showing in your log. The reason your PC may have been slow is because you have Avast, Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE), and Comodo installed. You should only have one antivirus program installed.

Are you still having a problem booting up your PC ? Have you tried both safe boot mode and normal boot mode?

I will give you a fix below with FRST that just removed that garbage you installed. Also I will stop GeekBuddy from loading at startup and also MSE. This fix is also going to remove the illegal hack to MS Office ( kmsemulator.exe ).

Download this >> View attachment fixlist.txt

Save fixlist.txt to your flash drive.
    • You should now have both fixlist.txt and FRST64.exe on your flash drive.
Now reboot back into the System Recovery Options as you did previously.
Run FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
The tool will make a log on the flashdrive (Fixlog.txt).
Please attach this to your next message. (See how to attach)

Now boot into normal Windows can continue with the below.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • Fixlog.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Hello chaslang.

The first time I had trouble, after running through the malware removal tasks, I read the post "How to Protect yourself from malware". It recommended Comodo as a firewall program and Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) as an AntiSpyWare Tool. I like to use Avast as my antivirus software, so I guess the question would be, can I have Avast as my anti-spyware tool and just use Comodo as the firewall and MSE for anti-spyware? Is it even possible or should I just uninstall Comodo and MSE?

I think my problems this time around were at least partly the result of a bad external hard drive. After I removed the external drive, things started speeding up and some other problems disappeared. There were just so many things happening at the same time. Now I'm faced with trying to recover the files on my external drive.

Anyway, I'm attaching the 2 files you requested. Thank you for your help so far.

    Eric

    You're welcome.
Avast is both an antivirus and antispyware. So is MSE? Thus you cannot have both of them installed. Since I already deleted a startup from MSE, you need to finish by uninstalling MSE now.

You can keep the remaining parts of Comodo Firewall. I just removed some startups from the GeekBuddy stuff which you obviously don't need. If you did, you would have used them instead of coming here for help. ;)

Since you are not malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. You can uninstall RogueKiller and HitManPro.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only
    3. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
