    Please help me!
Sunday evening (April 20) I clicked on what I thought to be an instructional video found on google that started downloading all kinds of crazy things. I immediatly hit ctrl-alt-del only to find that I was denied access to the task manager. I then hit the power button on my sony laptop, and switched the wireless signal to "off". Since that time (the last 3 days) I have constantly been getting popup Windows Security Alerts (telling my that my system is being hijacked), Home page change (to http://softwarereferral.com/jump...) alert, and Spyware Alerts. I tried to remove them with the programs I had - System Mechanic, AVG, ect. No luck.
So then I carefully followed the instructions of the "Read and Run" and "Windows XP Cleaning Procedure". After running all the scans, my computer was cured - for about 2 hours. Then all the popup alerts came back full force. What do I do next??
Oh, since this happened on Sunday, my computer hasn't been online. I've been downloading all the software from another computer to my jump drive, for fear that something might happen to the other computers on my home network. Please help! Thanks!

You have no anti-virus software installed!

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following:

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.
    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Do not change any check box options!!
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:

    * Now click the Execute button.
    * Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    * Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    * Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

    Now download and install:
    Java Runtime 6

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

Be sure to tell us how things are running.

Thanks. . . I think it may have worked. At least so far nothing has popped up, but after doing the Read and Run, nothing popped up for a good two hours.
    2 things:
    "O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - ?p=ZJ" didn't exhist, so I couldn't check it (obviously) in the analyse.exe program.
While running the MGtools, the following window popped up:
"ProcessDll.exe - Application Error: The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000035). Click OK to terminate the program."

I've attached the .zip and avenger log files.
So far it nothing has popped up like before.

There are still things to do ....

Please disable all anti-virus(which you still don't have and will be reinfected without it) and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Do not change any check box options!!
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:

    * Now click the Execute button.
    * Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    * Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.

oops. I just saw your lastest post. I guess I didn't wait long enough. well anyways, so far there hasn't been a detectable problem, at least not that I could detect, so I assumed I was cured. .
Since then I deleated a few of the programs that I had downloaded in the read and run (not the mgtools or the avenger) with add/remove programs, and I installed a few that were recommended by majorgeeks. The ones installed were: Comodo antivirus, comodo firewall, comodo spyware (for real time protection) and asquared.
I'm going to do the recommended actions from your last post right now; the new logs will be up shortly.

Ok, I ran these two programs, HGtools and avenger, following the instructions carefully. I've attached the two log files here. The only thing odd that came up was at the very end, after avenger produced it's log file, and after the system rebooted. The alert window that popped up read:

CMain.exe - Unable to locate componet:
This application failed to start because MFC71.DLL could not be found.
    Try Reinstalling this application.
    OK

    thanks.

Still a few items to deal with.

C:\Program Files\Comodo\Comodo AntiVirus\CMain.exe --- it is showing in the logs. So this is some issue with Comodo ...but lets do the following first:

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.

Also delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\Documents and Settings\H\Local Settings\Temp\

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

I disabled the comodo stuff (firewall, spyware, antivirus), but maybe the reason they are showing in the logs is because they restart themselves when avenger program restarts the computer? I dunno. . . but here are the new logs.
Thanks for all the help - really appriciate the time and knowledge! (because I certainly have no idea what we're doing exactly!)

I was referring to your previous message about the error message you were getting regarding not being able to find CMain.exe ....do you still get that message?

    In the meantime:

    Your logs look clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. If we used ComboFix then UNINSTALL COMBOFIX (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
    2.
    * Click START then RUN
    * Now type "%userprofile%\Desktop\cf" /u in the runbox and click OK.
    * Note: The space between the cf and the /U, it must be there.
    3. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    4. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    5. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
    * Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
    * Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    6. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
