First a note of caution. Be very careful with RemoveIT. It has major false positive issues and cannot be trusted to always be correct in its assesment of when something is bad.

The first item above may or may not be bad. It could be related to software from Hauppauge Computer Works Do use any of their software/hardware.

The second item is definitely an issue and you really need to run the READ AND RUN ME to have your PC properly cleaned. There could be more problems than you are seeing.

Do you have the requested log from AVG AntiSpyware?

Also please put your system in Normal Startup mode as requested in the READ & RUN ME.

 

No that is not it. Your logs showed you were using selective startup to stop various items from loading. Run MSconfig now and make sure Normal Startup mode is selected. Then continue with the below.


Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Is Media Supply Codec v1.6 something you installed and trust? If not then uninstall it.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 8

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {DE9C389F-3316-41A7-809B-AA305ED9D922} - (no file)

After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.

• Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
• Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
• Check the 'Input script manually' box.
• Click on the magnifying glass icon.
• Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:

• Now click the 'Done' button.
• Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
• You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
• A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Also delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp

Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

 

What you did was stop the Avenger program from working and thus you need to start over again with WinPatrol either disabled or uninstalled.

That means you did not follow my instructions and create a new log!!

Also you did not attach a log from Avenger (obviously you will not have one because you did not allow it to run). You attached the Avenger.zip file that is the program we asked you to download. Please be more careful.

NO you must not use selective startup!!


How to deal with startup processes.

• First you should uninstall any software that you do not use.
• Second if you have processes still trying to load at startup even though you have uninstalled them. You can simple use HijackThis to easily remove the startup. That way you will not have to manually edit the registry.
• Third for software you do not want to uninstall but you don't want it to load at startup, look in the program for an option not to load when Windows starts and disable it this way. If you cannot find an option like that you have two possible actions:
  • if you never want it to load at startup, use HJT to permanently remove the startup.
  • if you sometimes want it to load at startup, use a program like Startup CPL to enable or disable as you see fit.

 

I see that you uninstalled Media Supply Codec v1.6 Does that mean you did not know what it was? I still see the below folder from it which you should delete:

C:\Program Files\MediaSupplyCodec

Other than that, your logs are clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
   • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
2. If we used ComboFix then UNINSTALL COMBOFIX (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
   • Click START then RUN
   • Now type combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
   • Note: The space between the X and the U, it must be there.
3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
6. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
7. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
8. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
9. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
10. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
    • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
    • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
11. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Try the below.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it
double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

The reboot and see what Spybot finds.

 

It is more than likely a symptom of some piece of software that you have running the writes these files. I'm not sure which one but we see these a log and always delete them since they are just temp files and like you say, there are always lots of them which makes it look suspicious. Please put one of them into a ZIP file and attach the ZIP file. I will see if anything shows up in the file that would help us determine what they are from.

Do you run any kind of RSS feed? I'm wondering it it could be related to that.

 

Yes those file were definitely related to the SmitFraud infection you had. The removal of the registry key in message # 18 must have cleaned up the final part of the infection making permanent removal of the files possible.
