I tried uninstalling Norton's AntiVirus 2006 yesterday on my Windows XP Home laptop, my subscription was up anyways, plus norton seems to take too much ram for resources, especially at startup.

So I went ahead, Add/Remove Programs > Uninstall Norton AntiVirus 2006 > Remove All

Let that run for a while until some fatal error came up which stopped the entire uninstall process.. Tried uninstalling a few more times with the same trouble..

So now I basicaly have a half-assed remnant install of norton still lurking in my comp, and basically I need to manually uninstall all of its contents now. By means of deleting stuff thru safe mode, and registry keys??

Anyone have knowledge of removing norton manually??(tho, I don't want to accidentally remove Norton Ghost) Since Norton nestles itself soo deeply into the OS..

Any help would be appreciated, as I wanna use AVG instead.

I would try using SymNRT (SYMantec Norton Removal Tool); you can download it from this link. Run it once, restart the PC when it's done, and run it again, and restart again. If Norton2006 still appears in Add/Remove Programs, you can use Revo Uninstaller. It's an excellent freeware uninstaller and is great at removing all traces of programs completely.
    Good luck!
