    Hi
I would really appreciate some help as Mcafee online help have been useless, so I have come to the experts.

I cannot install Mcafee Internet security suite. I have a valid subscription from SKY which expires June 2010. I have run the Mcafee removal tool and rebooted. I have had trouble removing third party anti virus software though. Spyware blaster, Adaware and Malwarebytes software would not uninstall through the normal channels so I had to remove them manually. Perhaps this is the problem? Anyway, the Mcafee installation works fine up to a point. It downloads the software with no problem but as soon as the window Mcafee product installation appears, after a few seconds red crosses appear next to the security centre elements and installation failed. I have tried following advanced Mcafee help guidelines:

    *Download the removal tool from:
    http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe
Click Save and save the file to a folder on your computer.
Navigate to the folder where the file was saved.
Make sure all McAfee windows are closed.
Double-click MCPR.exe to run the removal tool.
Note: Windows Vista users must right-click MCPR.exe and select Run as Administrator.
Restart your computer after receiving the message CleanUp Successful.

    * Remove all McAfee files/folders from program files.
    Double click on My computer.
Double click on Local C: drive.
    Double click on Program Files.
Delete all McAfee related folders from the program files window.
    Close programs files window.

    * Remove McAfee files/folders from Application Data.
Click on Start >> Run >> type %appdata% then press enter.
Then delete all McAfee related folders from the "Application Data" window.
    Then close "Application Data" window.

    * Remove McAfee files/folders from Tasks window.
Click on start > Run > type tasks then press enter.
Then delete all tasks listed on the tasks window.

    * Click on Start menu > Search > all files and folders > type McAfee in the search box then press enter.
Delete all McAfee files from the search results.
Try to rename the McAfee files if you are unable to delete.

Please find the following trouble shooting steps to download McAfee from safemode with networking.

Click on the Start button ------->> Shut Down ------->> OK. Let the computer shut down completely. Turn on the computer, press and hold 'F8' until the Windows Startup screen appears. Choose "Safe Mode with Networking" from the list, and press the ENTER key on the keyboard. This will start your computer in "Safe Mode with Networking". Then try to install again.

    1. Open your internet explorer

    3. Type your e-mail address and password then press enter.
    4. Click on download button (blue down arrow) beside your product name, under download /install option.
    5. Click on I Agree under the agreement page >> click on download >> Run.
    6. Click on customize >Select the products >> click on next >> follow the instructions.

Forget password: If you forget your password, please click on ?Forget your password? option on the McAfee log in web page and type your e-mail address then click on get password, you will get your password by e-mail.

Please perform the following steps if you are unable to download/install McAfee products.

    * Uninstall any existing security software.
Some security software (anti-virus, firewalls, etc.) will not function correctly with other similar programs installed. Uninstalling previous security software, including any existing McAfee programs, should prevent any conflicts from occurring during or after installation.

If you encounter any issues while uninstalling software from companies other then McAfee, please contact the software manufacturer for support.

    Click Start.
    Click Control Panel.
Double-click Add or Remove Programs/Programs and features.
Locate and click the application you want to remove.

On the general tab, click on "Delete Cookies" and "Delete Files".
Click on "Programs" tab and make sure that "Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser" is checked.
Please go to "Advanced" tab and click on "Restore defaults" or ?Reset?.
Select the Advanced tab > Under Browsing, select Disable script debugging (Internet Explorer) and Disable script debugging (other).
Then click on apply > "Ok".

    * Disable popup blockers.
    In Internet Explorer, click Tools.
    Click Popup Blocker.
    Select Turn Off Popup Blocker.

    * Enable SSL 2.0 and SSL 3.0 certificates.
    Internet Explorer
In Internet Explorer, click Tools and select Internet Options.
    Select the Advanced tab.
In the Settings box, scroll to the bottom of the list under the header item Security.
Select both Use SSL 2.0 and Use SSL 3.0.
    Click OK.

Close all internet explorer windows then open internet explorer again and try to download McAfee again.
    1. Open your internet explorer

I have followed all of these instructions apart from the safe mode but nothing seems to make a difference. I would be grateful for any help.

Hi Janner, im afraid the best advice i can give is to not use Mcafee at all, it is not a name that is associated with quality to say the least.

You would be best to uninstall it and install AVIRA if you want a free AV or Kaspersky if you want to pay. and comodo as a firewall.

    Avira ~ http://majorgeeks.com/Avira_AntiVir_Personal_-_Free_Antivirus_d955.html

    Kaspersky ~ http://www.kaspersky.co.uk/trials

    Comodo ~ http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/download_firewall.html
[make sure to just install the firewall from comodo, i dont recommend the AV they offer.

If you have any more troubles getting rid of programs you dont want, download and install Ccleaner
    http://majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_Slim_d4191.html

Then go to RUN and type "C:\Program Files" and delete all the files of any programs you dont want from there.

Then go to RUN again and type "C:\Documents and Settings\*your-username*\Application Data" and delete any files associated with programs you dont want.

Then run both of ccleaners scanners, and make sure to run the registry one a few times until no more results are found, you might have to manually delete any icons that remain on the desktop from prog's you have removed.

If you have any more issues just post :)

I had no idea Mcafee were so bad. I have never heard bad things about them before. Thanks for the advice. I am fed up with trying to get Mcafee to work so I have taken your suggestion to download Avira and Comodo.

Thanks very much for your help.
