media center on xp won't start

Have been using windows media center to watch basic cable here at work. has always worked in the past. no new hardware installed. no new software other than required windows updates. Here's the problem:

I start media center. get the option of choosing My Tv....then Live Tv. I get a little spinner as it loads but the spinner never stops and live tv never starts. Any ideas?

Please help. My job is boring and I need my CNN!!!! :cry
