Media Player Runs when booting up or waking from Sleep

I'm running Windows 7 and every time I boot up or wake the computer from sleep, Windows Media Player starts automatically. It doesn't appear it is doing anything other than annoying me. Can anyone help me find what is starting it and KILL it!?!?!

 

You'll need to go into services and change the settings from automatic startup to manual startup, if you click on this link http://www.blackviper.com/Windows_7/servicecfg.htm scroll down, and you can see a full list of what your services should be set at !

Thanks rustyjack, I tried putting everything related to media player on manual as you suggested. It didn't work.

Any other suggestions?

 

start/run/regedit

there is sometimes a hidden reg entry which causes windows media player to load on startup in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\Run


delete this and you should be sorted!

 

use your msconfig to check your startup entries and make sure you don't have something loading the program or a media file associated with WMP. Check your mstask too.

 

Thanks samtal! That worked for boot up. It still opens when waking from sleep.
