I have just installed DSL verizon (from dialup) and with majorgeeks help, have removed (all?) the spyware. Everything is running slow, and my memory is at 100% - maxed out, internet is beyond SLOOOOOOOOW, and I may have 2 versions on IE (somehow), have lost IE toolbar, and am in dire need of some help. Thank you to all.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

While slow PCs and slow internet could be due to malware, they are more frequently caused by other issues.

What do you mean your memor is at 100%? Are you referring to Task Manager process list? Do you mean memory or did you mean CPU time? What is using all of your memory?

Did you installed an internet security suite applicaton that Verizon probably gave you for free?

The proper method to get malware help in this forum is by doing the below procedure.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, renaming, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.
    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy. - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

Thank you for your response (way back when). Since using the MG's malware removal guide, and now having a clean, well working computer, my 1 year old hard drive is clicking and on the way out. I used Depot Box Backup, and have backed up the whole system. Don't know how well their Restore will work, but when I put the new, larger HD in today, format etc., I will follow up with a post. I used to put computers together in the 80's, but am unsure of my abilities now, with Windows. Guessing if I install the new HD, use this current HD as an extra in E, install XP Pro it should lead me through the process.
Your Forum has been an invaluable resource. A MAJOR thanks to you!!!
