Memory errors and crashes.

Hi, ive been having this problem for a while know and i think it is getting worse. Im not totally convinced it is even a software problem rather than hardware so please let me know what you think.

When i visit certain folders im my work or strangely enough go into display options and the desktop background tab I get an error:-

The instruction at "0x7d6ee2b1" referenced memory at "0x00000000", The memory could not be "read".

Click ok etc.....

Also at random times my system just completely freezes. This sounds serious I know. The details of my system are below...hope someone can help.

AMD athlon xp on MSI motherboard
512 RAM (DDR)
Liquid Cooled processor
120 gig HDD
20 gig HDD which windows runs from

have you taken out in turn each or your memory sticks ( depending if youre using 2 that is ) ?

if you only have one memory stick in the pc or 512mb ... can you try another stick to test from another pc or a kind friend?

plus which OS are you using and do you have all updates?

Thanks for responding halo. I have taken out each card independantly and the memory error still comes as does the freezing. I also unplugged my second HDD to check if it was that but still the same.
