Memory reported vs. memory installed

    I'm working on a friends computer and the bios says it has 512mb (256 X 2) but when I right click my computer and click properties it says it only has 64mb which is probably why it is soooo slow. Why the discrepency? How do I fix it. I opened it and pulled a memory stick and sure enough it was 256mb.
