Noticed that the MSE icon was missing from the taskbar. MSE will not start, and won't delete neither. It says it cannot access it or I don't have permissions.

Revo does not see MSE, though it is listed in Programs. MalwareBytes full scan shows clean. Request help please.

As I presume I don't have any anti-virus protection as a result of this problem I have installed Avast for now.

Do you know what the below folder is for ?
    d-----w 0 2013-05-05 09:46:05 C:\Users\Danny\AppData\Roaming\fltk.org

MSE is not installed anymore. Only Windows Defender is running per your logs:
Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Run it by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7, or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of
      the code box
    Code:
    :Processes
    explorer.exe

    :Files
    C:\$recycle.bin\S-1-5-18\$8e10999c6ef7363250e0cd7730121bd3\U

    "Shell"="explorer.exe"
    :Commands
    [purity]
    [EmptyTemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar
      ) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large [IMG] button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • the JRT.TXTlog
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Don't know what 'd-----w 0 2013-05-05 09:46:05 C:\Users\Danny\AppData\Roaming\fltk.org' is. Seems to be a possible fake Adobe updater?

Anyway, ran OTM, as it was doing it's thing I got a Windows Critical Error message and that the machine would reboot in one minute. As OTM was still processing I let it carry on and soon after the PC rebooted automatically. Only difference I noted afterwards is that I now have a semi-transparent 'desktop.ini' file on the desktop.

Ran JRT, all fine, noted that it had found and got rid of 'Conduit' which was driving me nuts trying to get rid if it!

Ran MGTools/GetLogs, all files attached. MSE/Defender still cannot access, though I would expect that these actions were not intended to fix that anyway.

Are you sure ??? Seems to me it is related to this >> http://www.fltk.org/index.php

Now do you recognize it to be from something you used?

Normal. It has been there since you first ran the READ & RUN ME and we unhid system files.

As stated in my last message. MSE is not installed anymore so there is nothing to access. If you want it back, you will have to uninstall Avast first and then reinstall MSE.

Your logs are clean. Are you having any malware problems?

    1. I don't know what that program is for sorry. I am the only user of this PC so it would not have been anyone else.

    2. Can I safely delete this file from the desktop?

    3. I cannot reinstall MSE as it says I can't install more than one instance, and I cannot access it to delete it first. It says I do not have permission.

    4. No malware problems so thanks very much for this.

    You're welcome.

I suggest that you leave it be. It is not malware and may be related to program/game you have installed.

You don't need to. It will be rehidden when you finish final instructions below. It is part of Windows and is on every PC.

Perhaps it would just be easier to stick with Avast which is more powerful anyway. However if you wish to keep trying, you can run Revo Uninstaller that you have and see if it can locate any of it and remove it. There are no signs of it in your logs so it is probably just left over registry keys which could require manual deletion.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Go back to step 4 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

All done and seems fine. I noted that System Restore was disabled, so enabled and set a restore point.
Happy enough with Avast, will not bother trying to fix MSE.
Thanks again for your expertise, patience and help. Great job.
