Well I downloaded a new patch from microsoft.com and it seems the patch ahs caused M$ word to crash :-( . But the odd thing is, it also caused, frontpage, outlook, powerpoint, excel ect to also crash as soon as I open it, or a few seconds in. Other than reinstalling it, is there anything I can do?

We need a little bit more information to give you a more specific answer:

    • What version of Office? (XP, 2000, 97, etc)
    • What specific patch/update?
    • From what part of the microsoft website did you download it from? (windowsupdate, officeupdate, etc)
    • What exactly happens when it crashes? Does it give an error message?

Some patches for Office can be uninstalled while others can't. It also matters which office your using because each version is treated differently by microsoft in regards to patches.

The Microsoft Knowledge Base has a wealth of information. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;KBHOWTO There's nothing else you can do other than reinstalling or uninstalling the patch without more specific information. There might be a workaround available in the Microsoft Knowlege Base to fix the problem in Office.

    No error message.
    Office 2002.
    This patch was installed
    "Office 2000 Service Release 1a (SR-1a)"
http://office.microsoft.com/productupdates/mainCatalog.aspx Somewhere around that link. And I open it, some of them may need to load like outlook, then when it fully loads it closes, without a message.

All you can do is contact whoever you bought your computer from.

If you actually do have Office 2002, Office 2000 SR-1a is NOT designed to work with it. It's for an older version of Office. Are you sure it's 2002 that you have? SR-1a should have identified the version you're running, and NOT installed on 2002.

The link is for the windows update like office update. It shoudl have seen what version office is and reccomended the right patch. Unless, Office XP is commonly called Office 2002, then microsoft doesn't even admit to creating it (microsoft Knowledge base, under programs).

What O/S are you running? XP? Does it have a go back or systems restore? If so use it. DId your OS come with a recovery disk? Try that. When I have trouble at work on mil I go to start/run type in misconfig and restore my programs to an earlier date.

These are probably amatuer and naive answers to your questions but they work on 98/milinium /2000 etc.
