Microsoft XP home SP2 activation problem

Everytime I reboot I am asked to activate my copy of Windows. I proceed to click ok, I click activate my copy of windows through the internet. Then it asks to register and activate or just activate... I click activate only. It says it was successfully activated and logs me like normal.

If I restart my computer I have to rinse and repeat.

If I go to accessories -> system tools -> activate windows

it tells me that it is already successfully activated.

This problem just occured out of no where. It did the same thing like 6 months ago and then went away and for some reason its back.

I have scanned for viruses, spyware, and defragmented. Didn't help.

Any other suggestions?

Go to msconfig.

Put a check in hide all microsoft services.

Do you see reset5 in the list?

 

Yes I do see Reset 5 but it isn't checked and it says stopped.

 

You are using a Windows Product Activation crack, and we do not assist with pirated software.

 

Actually I'm not, and I have the CD/3 fold folder/and box that I bought it in at Best Buy sitting next to me.

But now that you mention it I don't remember seeing Reset 5 in services before this started happening.

Tell me its not a crack.

I also know hows its installed, and know that it cannot be done silently.

Its requires user interaction.

 

Installing Sp2 is what broke the crack.

My advice to stay legit?

Backup your data, reformat, and activate.

 

I'm not trying to be mean or anything else.

To get this out, you have many files you must delete, and hack entries out of the registry.

I work for MS, and we are having major issues with this crack showing up on customer's computers.

 

But you don't seem to understand, I bought it legally... I have the box and everything because it was "academic price" There is a big sticker on the box that says that.

Can't I just fix this? I don't want to reformat :|
Or can I use my XP pro upgrade CD that I also bought for academic price?

 

The computer is an HP. I bought it at Best Buy. I highly doubt they installed an illegal copy of Windows.

 

is the cd one of the official looking cd's with the hologram logo etc?

 

They didn't give me a CD.

Call HP support then. If its a legal OEM copy of XP, they should be able to help you.

 

In control panel -> system I can tell it is OEM.

I will call them and see if they can help.

You can't. I'm sure HP uses a CD when they manufacture your computer, they just don't give you it.

 

I thought you said you do have the CD.

If you bought the PC from Best Buy with XP preloaded, you would'nt get an XP CD, you would get a System Restore type disc.
