Its fairly quick at scanning and has some other options eg. Real Time Security, Tracks Eraser which will delete cookies, temp folder, last used files, toolbar history etc

a Hosts Files viewer and settings to restore IE after a browser hijack.

plus my fav, a tool to analyze what those running Processes are, with nice info to save you searching the net for what that process does.

Now that suddenly made this a lot more interesting, just yesterday I thought I needed something like that and wondered where to look for it! :D

    Thanks for the link! :)

Microsoft's two security tools have emerged as a result of acquisitions the company has made over the last two years.

In 2003 it bought Romanian firm GeCAD Software to get hold of its anti-virus technology. In December 2004 it bought New York-based anti-spyware firm Giant Company Software.

I think it looks good, we will have to see how well the real-time protection works. I like the idea of knowing what processes are running, and browser hijack restore. That is until someone figures out how to bypass this thing and the process shows up as something else. :)

    Conspiracy.....LoL.

Then again....this is just another plot for Microsoft to take over the world right?

That's interesting... So much I get suspicious actually... Lol I have a suspicious mind! I'll dl it this weekend and try it out, will be interesting to see if it finds anything that my other tools don't find!

Will also be interesting to see if it removes something essential for my computer! :D

I downloaded this yesterday and it's quite impressive. It found 2 things that Spybot and Ad-Aware SE (Fully updated) both failed to find, and everything they did find as well. So I think, barring some unforeseen bad thing, that this will replace Spybot and Ad-Aware. It may seem dumb, but I've been dying to only have one Anti-Spyware program for a long time. IMO the less software it takes to do a job the better. Almost wish they'd put out a straight A/V and a Firewall that monitors incoming too, but hey thats why I have Avast and a hardware firewall.

    Hi all,

I, along with almost everyone I know has decided to try out this new app. Soooo I said "Why Not". Now the problem.
When I went to download it, their sniffer app came on and wanted me to verify my legit copy of my OS. Well, it refused to download because it could not be verified, their assumption is that it was pirated.
Now how can that be if my OS came installed on my computer??????

I guess that rules out my downloading the software, but I would really like some input on why my OS can't be verified???

Has anyone else come across this? If so, let me know I would like to find out if this could be an error on my part as to the settings or if I was sold a computer with an illegal copy of OS.

    Thanks for any help!

    Suzy

Sorry about not getting back sooner. Storms in the area forced me to shut everything down.

Msconfig/services - the only non microsoft services are associated with Panda Antivirus- I am running Titanium 2005.

I have tried in safe mode and no it does not work. I have installed sp2 through the cd that I requested from MS and set for automatic updates. Haven't received any so went to web site and it freezes on the page that says searching for updates. So I guess updates don't work either.

I went to the site in your last reply and read about a product key and certificate of auth. that should have come with my pc. When I first got the pc I got no product key or disc. The instructions were to hook it up and turn it on and follow on screen instructions. Which included activating XP. Went through the process of getting on line etc. It took about 45 minutes to set it up to where I could put my isp cd in and get on line.

Windows 9X/ME users don't bother to download it as it has been edited so that it no longer works with these OS's. Apparently it used to work on 9x/ME, with the company that designed it. But M$, when they bought the company out, cut out the 9x/ME coding. Bazza

I've looked through this. You do not have to validate. Its optional, at this time.

In addition, OEM owners (SLP) cannot use the process, and instead have alternative way to provide proof, although I don't think they are active yet.

If spysweeper finds more stuff then I take it you have alot of spyware on your PC? as I find nothing on mine using Ad-Aware, Spysweeper and MS AntiSpyware Beta apart from the usual tracking cookies.

In one of my posts above there is a test of the most commont AntiSpyware products and the Giant ( MS AntiSpyware ) came out on top closely followed by SpySweeper.

It is still a wise thing to use 2 antspyware or more products as one of them will most likely miss something the other one will catch, Spysweeper may miss things Ad-Aware catches and vice versa, it happens with all products including Anti Virus apps.

    Lmao!!!

O...k! I just installed it, updateded and did a complete scan. It found 2 high risk threats... And the last thing I did last night was to run an updated ad-aware scan, spybot, norton, and update my spywareblaster...

But... One of the high risks objects is.... Flashget! Rotflmao! In a way I agree, it is a shitty program, I hate it, but it is the only download manager I have installed, so I think I want to keep it, for now at least! Thank you very much, MS! :D

The other high risk stuff looks like cookies or something...

I'll have to try this for some time, and run it when I haven't just scanned the computer with other programs! :)

    Thanks for the link! :)

Maybe I haven't had a problem with it because I use Firefox, and because I've disabled Flashget so that I have to manually turn it on just for downloading something... :D

You can in the MS program have it ignore Flashget when it does its scanning.

on a side note this download manager is pretty good http://www.majorgeeks.com/download1821.html

Yeah Halo, I saw the setting for that. It just gave me such a good laugh when it came up! I didn't know it was considered a threat, I just thought it was annoying! :D

A friend suggested DAP today, so I uninstalled Flashget and installed that instead, if I don't like it, I'll try LeechGet instead. Thanks! :) I don't use the dl manager so much, unless I download from a very slow server, or if the file is huge, so it's not often I get to use it anyway.

Just on a side note... I must be really stupid, but the setting for turning off scheduled scans in the MS anti spy... no matter what I do, I seem to have it set to scheduled scans. I don't like that, I want to decide myself when to scan, but I couldn't find where to turn it off. I'm sure I'm just blind. Or something else... Lol.

Another question... The Real Time Security, anyone had it enabled for a while? I disabled that, I didn't want to have another "resource hogger", but for you who've used it, do you recommend it?
