missing path to System Restore.

    Hi to anyone and everyone. Hope someone can help. When trying to use System Restore, get message saying System Restore Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. A check of Computer Management says Could not start the System Restore Service on Local Computer. Error 3: The system cannot find the path specified. Is this a registry thing or what, and how can it be corrected? all help appreciated and thanks in advance.
