Monitor immediately goes into sleep mode

I have a new Dell Monitor hooked into an old Optiplex GX 270. It worked fine for about 6 months. This week the monitor immideately goes into sleep mode, upon bootup. I can't even get into safe mode.

#1 Weren't there some issues with cards in the GX 270?
#2 Is it possible I need an updated driver?

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Does the monitor show ANYTHING onscreen when you disconnect it from the computer and turn it on? You should see some type of self-test when you turn it on. This is often three bands of color (green, red, and blue, usually in that order); if the monitor is working properly, the self-test screen should blink on-and-off, with all three colored bands visible during the "ON" phase.

If possible, test the monitor on another system. If the problem goes away, there is nothing wrong with the monitor. If the problem moves to the next computer, the monitor itself might have a setting that needs to be adjusted, or it might be defective.

You might want to contact Dell, or check the website, to see if anyone else is having a similar problem...
