Mothers laptop error getting close to max memory usage?

she has 3gb ram and a 64-bit windows 7 but just recently it has said getting close to memory usage this is weird cause she just uses firefox and outlook ive removed some programs that she dont use but being over 2gb usage shouldnt be right can someone help out???

 

Can you quote the exact error message?

Anyway, Windows is also using a substantial amount of memory, and as long as there is free memory, Windows does not see any need to page it out.

What's the size of the pagefile?

 

My guess is that the Outlook data needs cleaning out (empty the garbage) and compressing, over time it can grow huge.

 

What version of FF? Memory leaks with FF were common but should have been fixed with the current version 15.0.1.

 

I'd download and run Advanced System Care. In addition to running a deep scan, look for and disable any unnecessary programs in startup using the utility in the toolbox section.

Also pay attention to the hard drive scan. If it finds errors and fixes them, rescan again. If errors keep coming up the excess memory usage could be a sign of an impending hard drive failure.

Check to be sure Virtual Memory is not disabled.

From the Windows point of view, that matters little, even if virtual memory (page file size) is set to zero, Windows will use temporary virtual memory space if it needs to.

Different for some software that demand a minimum amount of virtual memory space (some games, Adobe software, etc.).
