Want to move 120 GB Seagate to replace primary 80 GB drive in new Dell Dim 3000. Then move new Dell drive to secondary. Old drive has XP/Pro, new Dell is XP/Home.
Replaced 80 GB HDD with 120 HDD. Got black screen offering Safe Mode, Safe w/ networking, Use last good config, Normal Startup.
Always gives this screen, no matter which option I choose.
Maybe XP locks into the hardware, and won't boot on other hardware?
Could install the old drive as secondary which save the data, but would have to reinstall gobs of software.
Any way of moving this HDD over to be primary on new computer?
    Any help, even articles, appreciated.

    Thnx

Doing this generally leads to issues. Because of the hardware absctraction layer that is created when you install XP, it's pretty well configured to the hardware in your other machine. When you boot up , it's looking for and attempting to enumerate hardware that doesn't exist, thus the issues you are having. You will need your CD and you will need to run a repair on the installation.
This doesn't always work well but it's a something to try.

Thanks. Got the job done using retail XP CD, Partition Magic, and lots of lost sleep.
WHAT A PAIN ! "Issues" is putting it mildly.
