I upgraded my older computer (P4,1.8Mhz, 80G HD) from NT4 sp6 to XP Pro. The installation screen noted a driver compatabily problem for my mouse, but I went ahead with upgrade anyway. Installation went smoothly and XP opened fine with mouse functioning fine - for about 10 mins. Then it froze, nothing else worked had to restart computer. At welcome screen cursor is present but can't be moved. Can not open to desktop to install mouse drivers, or establish internet connection.

Went to safe mode - mouse works fine. Since I can't use deactivated CD drive - how can I install drivers for the mouse that I have on the manufacture's CD? Any help would be appreciated.

    Would re-installing XP help?

No, reinstalling won't help, unless you are planning a clean installation. Unless this isn't aUSB or PS/2 mouse, default drivers for XP would work fine. The compatibility mention probably had to dow ith incompatible third party drivers installed. Uninstalling any intellimouse or logitech mouseware from add/remove may just fix your problem.

For sake of ease. Go to start, run and type appwiz.cpl to access add/remove programs.

Thanks Adrynalyne - uninstalling the old mouse driver did the trick!
