MS Office Registration

For some unknown reason to me, when I go to use MS Office products, word, excel, access, etc., I am asked to register the product. The product is MS Office 2000 and was registered when first purchased years ago. But now it is asking for it to be registered before it will allow me to use the products.

When I try to register online it fails (not supported anymore??) and e-mail option does not work either. Any Ideas as to how to go about getting this to work, since the product was registered previously?

Open office is free and has all the same products.
