MS Vista Ultimate won't boot to desktop

A screen message comes up saying: "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device"

The PC is running Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit. I see a Boot (x:) but the HDD does not show up. Using repair on the Windows Vista disc doesn't work.

I can get into the BIOS but the HDD is not visible in the boot sequence.

Any thoughts to solve this problem would be appreciated. I am unfamiliar with hardware but I did take off the box's cover and checked the HDD connections as well as blow dusting the inside gently. Thanks. :-o

Hi my friend , you can check the cables , even you can hook your hdd in another machine to test if it works but if you hdd doesn't recognize from the bios maybe your hdd is dead :wave

I did check the cables and thought before that the HDD was dead. Thanks for your suggestions.
