ms works 8 with vista help please

Hello

hope this is a quick question for everyone out there, i am running windows vista home and ms works v8 (for my sins)
when trying to print from the works equal to excel i had a message telling me to save the file in to a .mps format, if i did this with help of the net i could then print off my document, this was due to a mps file printer being installed by the manufacturer of the laptop and it being set as default printing device, when i set my local printer as the default device, works locks up.
this is not an issue in the word programme.

any help gratefully received :confused
