OS Vista x64 sp2. Trying to install VZAccess Manager (Verizon tool). Getting installer error code 1720. "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A script required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Custom action... It does not list a column number or line number.
I have tried support personnel and vendor to no avail. Steps I have taken:
    1. Unregister and register msiexec.
    2. Tried to reload Installer 4.5.
    3. Shutdown UAC, Firewall, and Antivirus.
    4. Run as administrator
    5. Ran SFC /scannow and chkdsk, no problem there
    6. Checked Services, installer is started.
I have done other things but my brain is becoming frazzled and I don't remember them all.
I hope you guys or gal can help. I can't update the firmware in my USB modem without this software. Attached is the verbose log from the install attempt.

Try the windows installer cleanup utility.
Note: this has been removed from MS because it did something to Office installs.
Here is the download for it http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/MSI-cleanup-utility-3889c8db

This should remove all those failed installs and you can try to install it one last time.

The answer here looks promising too.

I had tried the solution from Microsoft earlier but no luck. I can't get the Installer cleanup utility to install. Have tried from download file, Desktop, as Administrator. Any suggestion for a good Registry fixer (a free one). It has been suggested by several sources that this is a registry issue. Doesn't tell me a lot. Another option is to download a MSI editor and actually look at the program. Seems every editor I look at was a huge download file.
Thanks for the quick response. I could use some more suggestions. Willing to try most anything short of system Recovery.
Another suggestion: Before we work on artificial intelligence why don't we do something about natural stupidity?

You can try Glary Registry Repair.

    You're not stupid.

I had an issue with the installer looking for a previous version, run task manager and stop VZaccessmangeruninstaller process then continue with the installation process.

more people have posted this as a fix.

    1. Click the Start menu and select "Control Panel." Click "User Accounts and Family Safety." Click "User Accounts."

    2. Click to choose the option "Turn User Account Control on or off."

    3. Type admin username and password if/when prompted. Next, click "Continue."

    4. Click to remove the check next to "Use User Account Control (UAC)." Click "OK."

    5. Reboot your computer and re-attempt to install VZAccess Manager.

    6. Disable Windows Firewall during the installation. Firewall may hinder the VZAccess Manager installation process. To disable the firewall temporarily, click the Start menu and type "Windows Firewall" (without quotes) in the Search bar. Click to launch "Windows Firewall." Click "Turn Windows Firewall on or off" in the left pane. Choose "Off (not recommeded)." Click "Apply" and then "OK."

    7. Attempt to reinstall VZAccess Manager. You will not see any more error messages.

    Dear Foogoo;
I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings concerning the error message. "Error Message 1720" still returns. I am going to put this problem on hold until I run through the Malware removal guide.
I shall return with the results.
    Thanks

Just finished the Malware Removal process. I still have the installer problem. Tried the uninstaller route. No success. Any further suggestions.:confused
