MSI KT333 - Onboard Audio

In my motherboard manual....if I'm reading it right, it says that by clicking the Soundman icon, and bringing up the Sound Manager....going to Speaker Configuration, I can transform the three back panel connectors to 4/6 channel analog connectors "automatically" by selecting the correct Channel Setting. I'm trying to connect a sub-woofer and 5 speakers.....and there isn't any "automatic" about it.....what am I doing wrong, here? I consider myself literate....but am I reading this wrong?? My driver is updated.
