ok i think i have a problem. my chipset cooler on my MSI Mobo.
it gets so hot that i cant hold a finger on it. and that cant be good.
its an MSI P6N SLI. and its a pasiv cooler.

    http://www.gate2prices.dk/hardware/hardware-vis.asp?Kode=H006671

i have then bought a cobber pasiv/activ cooler. for it i think.

    an Noth Q. NQ-3880 http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=324575

ok so it says on the back that it fits for nothbridge holes and with spring.
and on the front it says supports most AMD & Intal chipsets.

so i sertenly hope it fits. but im not sure and im not realy good at these things.
what does it take to take the old of and put a new one in ?

do i have to take out the mobo ?

should i not use cooling paste like on prossesor. ?? it dosent say enywhere.

if i seem overly nervus it might be becouse it allways go wrong for me.

    so help needed. thank you.

I have no expierence in replacing a Northbridge cooler. I do have a suggestion though.

Have you tried maximizing the airflow around your current cooler? If the airs not moving in you case, you have a problem.

I suggest pointing a fan at its side, and and exhaust fan above it.

you should be able to check the temp using speedfan or everest. For reference, mine runs about 25-30C

    it says

    temp1 35C
    temp2 43C
    temp3 -128C ????? must be a foult
    hdo 41C
    hdo1 31C
    core 0 36C
    core 1 39C

i have a 120 fan. in the back an 80 in front of the harddisks,
an 80 on the side and a usb fan inside ythe case to cool the heatsink,

but it seams loose. and i cant hold a finger on it. it is so hot,

so how to put the new one on ????

ok well it COULD be 1, 2, core 1, or core 2 and they are all within acceptable temp ranges. I wouldnt worry about it

but when looking at the msi thing to see temp and stuff. it cant see it.
i dont think there is a sensor on it.

and i think that core is some of my harddisks, that speedfan also take with,

i think the HDO's are the hard drives

if the northbridge is any of those temps its fine. If you go by touch everything is gonna be hot by out standards but usually not for computer components.

i dont understand that the MSI dualcore center dosent find it, that if eny should find it,

and still it aperently dosent sit right. it is wobly kind of loose. and to hot to hold a finger on. so something is wrong.
