MSN Messenger - Microphone thing

Ok I have no clue as to why it's does this but here goes...........A freind ( yea yea it really is ) had a router installed and now his microphone won't work when trying to have a voice conversation over MSN. It works any other time and worked before the router was installed. Any ideas?

Is the new router using any kind of NAT? Does it have any kind of firewall features - like port blocking over certain protocols.

I should imagine, that Messenger voice converstations use UDP. Im afraid i don't know what port it uses. But I would check for any kind of restriction with the UDP protocol. Also - i know NAT can cause problems. Let me know what kind of features this 'ere router has.

The problem has been exacerbated by routers such as the Dell 1184 Wireless Router which has been difficult for usesers to tame:

I suggest you upgrade to MSN Messenger v6 which has improved communication thru firewalls and routers (using tunnelling and such)
