My drag and drop don't work

I had a recent problem with Spyware (namely derbiz.com) and got rid of it with help from chazlang on here (thanks). However, since then, having run Ad Aware etc on a regular basis, something odd has happened to my computer. 2 things are not working.

First of all, I cannot drag and drop anything - files, e-mails, icons etc - nothing will move. It can be selected but not dragged, and hence, not dropped.

Second, the links on pages in Internet Explorer where they lead to a new window being opened do not work - the window opens but the site does not come up nor does the address appear in the address bar. Basically, I get a blank window.

Any ideas what is up and how to correct it? I do not really want to re-install my system since I do not have Windows XP disk (bundled software so re-install wipes computer unless there is something else I can do). Any ideas will be very welcome as I have been banging my head for the past few days.
