My friend is having a boot problem please help

This is what my Friend says "the pc when it boots up it goes to this black screen menu that says : maybe power failure or shut down not correctly or hardware problem then it says like configure to the latest windows that worked. either windows safe mode or networking safe mode or normal windows mode then it goes to blue screen that flashes quick then goes to window icon screen then goes back to the black screen with white letters writting"

Would help if we knew exactly what the screen says.....and what does it say after it tries to boot windows then kicks back to the black screen?

 

Sounds like the 'windows did not start successfully' error. It occurs when something prevents windows from starting correctly, causing it to crash, reboot and spawn the error. It's almost always caused by a faulty driver, and in most cases the graphics driver. Try booting in safe mode.

 

She is trying to boot it is safe mode but stel goes to the black screen

 

Try the 'last known good configuration' option in the screen where you select safe mode.
If this fails, we have to come up with a way to figure out what the blue screen says...

 

Ok we found out the problem. Her hard drive crashed. She is contacting HP
